How to manage stock in an agro shop
Six simple steps that keep stock right in a pesticide, fertilizer or seed shop.
1. Keep every pack size as its own item
A 250 ml and a 500 ml bottle have different prices and different stock. Keep each pack size as a separate item so bills and stock both stay right.
2. Write the batch number and expiry when goods arrive
For pesticides and seeds, the batch and expiry matter most. Record the batch number, expiry date and cost the day the goods arrive. It is hard to do later.
3. Sell the older batch first
Bill the batch that expires first. This cuts the loss from expired stock.
4. Set a low-stock level for each product
Keep the level higher for fast-moving products so they do not run out in the season. Get an alert when the stock reaches it.
5. Count the stock once a month
Count what is on the shelf and compare it with the software. If there is a difference, adjust the stock and note the reason.
6. Order when stock reaches the level
Send a purchase order to the supplier and record the goods when they arrive. Stock and batch update by themselves.
