How to recover farmer credit (udhaar)
Giving credit is part of the business, but recovering it needs a method. Seven simple ways.
1. Set a credit limit for each farmer
Keep a limit based on the farmer. Do not leave a very large balance with one farmer.
2. Write the payment date on the bill
Tell the farmer and write on the bill when the money is due. A written date makes it easier to ask.
3. Match the date to the crop
Farmers pay after the crop is sold. Set the date to match, and recovery is faster.
4. Remind on time
Remind before the date, on the date and every few days after it. A WhatsApp message is easy and well accepted.
5. Take part payments
If the farmer cannot pay in full, take what they can and record it. Small payments also reduce the balance.
6. Make it easy to pay by UPI
Keep a UPI QR on the bill and the reminder, so the farmer can pay at once.
7. Think before giving new credit on an old balance
Until the old balance is paid, give new credit carefully.
